The church of St. Donatus who was a bishop and martyr, was built as far back as 1830 and represents one of the monuments of Baranja cultural heritage. The church has two altars: the altar of St Donatus and the altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Since 1917 the church has had the organ located on the choir.
In 1997, when the expellees came back, Vinko Dubravac, who used to be a parish priest, together with the congregation changed the roof on the church. Main works and reconstruction of the church were announced, begun and completed by the current parish priest Anđelko Cindori. The reconstruction lasted for 11 months due to the enormous response of the congregation as well as the support of the donors.
In 2005 the Way of the Cross was made. It was led by Mr Mate Tijardović and financially supported by the parishioners. On 26 November 2005 the solemn mass was celebrated by Đakovo Syrmia bishop Marin Srakić D.D in the renewed church. During the Communion it was played on the organ for the first time after it was restored and got its original form from 1917.
Mass is held in the church in Karanac on Sundays at 8 a.m. and Wednesdays at 5 p.m.
